I have been talking and writing about social media marketing a lot recently and I just want to make it perfectly clear I am not suggesting you post ads in your social media posts is social media marketing, that’s not marketing that is spamming.
One of the fastest ways to be un-friended on Facebook (right after using offensive comments) is Trying to Sell Something. Statistically roughly 4 out of 10 of your friends will remove you if you try to sell them something.
That is not to say you can’t use social media to enhance your brand and suddenly remind people about the business you are in. For example if you were a real estate agent posting information about community events, current market information, new schools and or shopping centers planned to be build in the community would be some examples of reminding people you are in the real estate business and appear to be very knowledgeable about the community without your friends feeling like your hand is on their wallet/purse.
When I refer to social media marketing I am referring to paying for advertising on the social media sites, for example you can advertise on Facebook.
With social media accounting for just under 20% of the time that people spend online Social Media Marketing can provide your business with thousands of impressions as part of your internet marketing strategy.
With 3 out of every 4 minutes spent social networking done on Facebook, for you to advertise on Facebook would be a good place to start your Social Media Marketing of your business, and the beauty of it is, you can determine the demographics your want your product or service offering to be exposed to.
It was recently announced that Facebook ads will be expanding again to include “sponsored stories” in the news feed beginning in the first quarter of 2012
