Are You Getting All You Paid For From Your Social Media Marketing Campaign?

With More than 22 million U.S. businesses being one-man or one-woman shows. Having one owner and no employees it is no wonder the majority of the businesses I talk to that are doing social media marketing are attempting to do it themselves.

What I have to wonder is, do they really understand how important it is today to have a good social media marketing campaign?

Just look at the recent findings of Economists at the University of California, Berkeley, examining the effects of Yelp’s online ratings published the results of a study in this month’s Economic Journal. The study showed that just  a slight half-star improvement in ratings can increase a restaurant’s business during peak dining hours by 19%.
What does a 19% increase in business equate to in terms of dollars for your business? And can you really afford to miss out on your share of that business?

Social media may be free, but, social media marketing can be very time consuming and time is money. So how long are you going to try and do it yourself?
What other options do you have? Maybe hire someone. Be leery of anyone promising you hard-and-fast numbers of followers or fans. It’s one thing to promise to boost your numbers, it’s another thing to promise you several thousand followers overnight.
You could hire an inexperienced college grad with a few hundred Twitter followers. You could hire someone who’s just going to boost your numbers with known follow-back accounts and accrue thousands of random useless followers or fans . Or you could hire someone who actually knows what they’re doing—and they should be able to show you actual results, (in real numbers) how your social presence is helping your business.

Having spent most of my adult life engaged in sales and marketing as well as a decade of preparing income tax returns for small businesses, individuals and real estate investors. Running your own business is not easy, you must utilize all the tools available to aid in your business development, I believe your personal development is equally important. I have for many years had knowledge and interest in small and medium sized businesses as it relates to allowable deductions, tax deferred exchanges and other tax treatments, I have also, for many years invested in books, tapes/cds for inspiration and motivation, so it seemed a natural fit for me to become involved in aiding in people in business development as well as their personal development.
