I Don’t Know What to Blog About.

Some say you should blog everyday, some say blog every other day a some insist you blog twice a week minimum. I don’t know what to blog about is a common response to online marketingthat statement.

 

What do I do? Well God rested on the seventh day, and God is smarter than anyone else I know so I am following him and currently blogging six days a week. In the past I have shot for 2 blog posts a week so I’ll let you know how my new blogging schedule works out.

 

Some of you are thinking no way, there is no way you could come up with something to blog about 6 days a week. Well so far it has been a lot easier than I imagined.

 

Topics come to you all the time, for example the other day a one line statement I  made in a post kept appearing in the comments other made about the post. I wrote a blog post on that one statement (it was obvious further explanation was required).

 

Time and time again I have written blogs posts as a result on single statements people have made to me in conversations during the course of the workday.

 

Think about it, what do you do all day?

You work for at least 8 hours every day right. During that time,  you constantly think about what it is that you’re doing. You absolutely do have something to talk about. It’s a matter of translating some of your thoughts into words because a blog is just that: your thoughts and opinions about something.

 

Anything related to your business field is a perfect topic, and can be related to almost anything:

 

  • What’s Hot! Interesting or new things going on in your industry.

  • Tips and tricks

  • Changes you would like to see

  • News and trends are also always relevant topics, so share your thoughts and expertise on what is happening in your industry. The list can go on and on.

You are bidding on keywords so that you become visible in the sponsored links. Again, ideally you want to dominate the sponsored listings – so that you have more chance of being ‘clicked’ on. Depending on your price point, this marketing stratagy can be costly.

Social Media Networks – Rather than putting all your eggs into one ‘online’ basket and simply having your website presence, now you can leverage social networks to create a broader online presence.

Not only do social networks provide you with more opportunity to grow a presence online social medai is not to replace your website or blog. Fundamentally, social isn’t about direct sales, it’s about getting people to ‘know you, like you, trust you, talk about you – and ultimately do business with you’.
In order to grow this relationship and get people to know, like and trust you – you’ve got to provide content that is useful, purposeful, authentic and from the heart of your business – so that you ‘earn’ attention.but you should leverage Social Media to send traffic to your website (preferably to your blog on your website).

When people read your blog, they get pulled back to your website. Your Bolg is the perfect ‘engagement’ and ‘broadcast’ tool. It also works beautifully for social media,because, it gives you something to share.
If a business isn’t blogging – then they don’t have much to say. And in a world where being ‘vocal’ matters – then blogging assists with your online visibility.

  • Does your business blog tend to be neglected when things get busy? Set Up A Blog For Local SEO & Social Media

Use WordPress. It already has a lot of search engine optimization basics baked-in. No other platform is as flexible with all the plug-ins, in my opinion. Host your WordPress Blog at GoDaddy.com. GoDaddy hosts all my wordpress blogs, and the setup was seamless.

  • Integrate your blog as part of your website. It could be in a dedicated subdirectory or it could be set as a subdomain.
  • Use catchy blog post titles. Put yourself in the shoes of a person who is casually surfing the Internet. Will your blog headline stand out among the hundreds of others.?
  • Make your RSS feed obvious, above the fold, and preferably use the orange RSS icon.
  • Use images in your posts. Images capture and hold the attention of your reader.
  • Structure your blog posts for easy scanning. Use header tags, lists, etc. Avoid long sentences and long paragraphs. Making sure you have plenty of white space makes for an easier read.
  • Keep your posts short and concise.  250-500 words is a good number. People only have so much time.
  • Use social media at a minimum,  Twitter and Facebook or LinkedIN depending on your industry. You’ve GOT to be out there.
  • Use Hootsuite to pipe your latest posts into Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google + and other social networks. In addition to it’s Free version HootSuite also offers a Pro version to help you manage multiple social networks from one dashboard (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+). I have been using HootSuite for over 2 years to manage my multiple Twitter accounts, Facebook Business (Fan) pages as well as LinkedIn, Google + and my personal Facebook timeline all in one place with one login. However, Twitter should not replace RSS.
  • Put relevant keywords into your blog’s title. Use All-In-One SEO to have more control over the titles across your blog.
  • Post frequently. Once a day is fantastic, I usually try to post every 3 days. However, once a week might be a bare minimum.
  • Be consistent. This should be number 1. The reader will know when you are putting up something new and will give them a chance to make you a reading habit. Don’t make them work and don’t wear them out.
  • Use Analytics. I personally use Google Analytics

Because according to Mindjumpers “ Social media sites and blogs reach 80% of all U.S. internet users”. and “Social networks and blogs account for 23% of all time spent online — twice as much as gaming” also according to Mindjumpers. According to Social Media B2B “B2B companies with blogs generate 67% more leads per month on average than non-blogging firms”.

Keep in mind, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Blogging takes time. SEO results from blogging takes time. If your expecting to see immediate results from blogging you’re in for a rude awakening. Keep in mind, with online content marketing you are building a complex and long-standing infrastructure that, will grow with time and effort.
