In this “New Economy”, Starting a Business is the best option for Millennials

Getting a college degree is no longer the near guarantee of landing a secure good paying job, for many Millennials starting a business may be a better use of their education.

The after effects of the recession, an unemployment rate that has yet to reach the historical  recovered U.S. economy of a 5% jobless rate and  longer-term changes in the labor market, have forced many of today’s graduates to take the first decent offer they receive, which in many cases they’re overqualified for the position.

Since the most recent economic forecast from the Federal Reserve is that the jobless rate will stay above 5% through 2016 it would seem to me even more reason for this highly educated group of young people seriously consider starting their own business.

And why not, the industrial age is dead, we live in the information age now the millennials aren’t old enough to not remember not having the Internet, they have totally embraced social media, smart phones, IPADS and all the technological advances as they come their way and they are more comfortable and confident using technology to help their business prosper.

So given the current changes for many of these overqualified millennials the best option may be for them to start a business.

Work from Home Jobs will Increase.

The information age we live in appears to also be becoming the entrepreneur age and everyone wants to work from home, for themselves or have flexible enough schedules that it feels as though they’re working for themselves.

According to a study conducted by software company Intuit, “By 2020, more than 40 percent of the American workforce, or 60 million people, will be freelancers, contractors and temp workers”.

The entrepreneur business model will play a major role in the future workplace, in addition to the way we design and build office buildings and our homes in the future.

The report also says that in the next seven years, the number of “small and personal businesses in the U.S. alone will increase by more than 7 million” and full time, full benefit jobs will be harder to find. Most of these businesses will be web or mobile-based and will work closely with a global workforce.

This increasing number of freelancers, independent contractors working from home will also create opportunities for entrepreneurs to serve needs they have ranging from health insurance to training and motivational training to work productively in their new workplace environment.

Additionally in 2020, one in six Americans will be older than 65, these “Baby Boomers”, will continue to work part or full-time, as they see retirement as a concept their “Industrial Age” parents had embraced in years gone by.

Times are tough, especially if you want to do things the old way, things change, but there are countless opportunities for people to make money working from home.

The industrial age is dead, we all know that now, Traditional ways of making a living are on the way out but there is also a greater opportunity for an entrepreneur to work from home now more than ever before.

What will you do, if anything, with the opportunities before us?

Do You Think Your Education will Help Your Success as an Entrepreneur?

Few colleges and post-secondary schools teach how to help with your success as an entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurs educate themselves mostly with reading books, trade magazines, attending conferences, real world experience and a number of other ways.

“Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune”. – Jim Rohn

You should never stop striving to learn more. Successful entrepreneurs are always seeking to educate themselves about new business strategies and new technologies among other things and are not necessarily enrolled in a school to do it.

Do You think Being an Entrepreneur is a Big Risk? You May want to Think Again.

Sure entrepreneurs take on the probabilities of failure, but they don’t necessarily like to gamble, but rather they take calculated risks. They find ways to minimize the odds of loss, stacking the deck in their favor.

Entrepreneurs have a different mindset that the average person who, views starting a business as to risky. Entrepreneurs have the confidence in themselves though their knowledge or their relationships to overcome the obstacles that could cause great loss.

“Risk comes from not knowing what you are doing”. – Warren Buffett

George Bernard Shaw said.”People are always blaming circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get ahead in this world are the people whos get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them.”

If the great Recession has taught us anything it is that being an entrepreneur may not be as big a risk as not being one.

  • What people thought was safe, before the Great Recession turns out to be not as safe as people had thought.
  • College doesn’t guarantee a person a high paying job in their field of study once the graduate.
  • Having a great paying corporate job one day doesn’t guarantee you will have it tomorrow.
  • Putting money into a 401k plan doesn’t mean you will have more money in the bank than when you started to plan.

If the world continues on this path of economic decline, as many project it will, taking calculated risks pursuing your dream of becoming an entrepreneur, will actually be less risky than pursuing a job.

So Do You Work On Your Business or In Your Business?

As an entrepreneur, until your business will run without you, you really are just self-employed, you basically just have a job, you essentially bought your own job.

The reality is for millions of entrepreneurs is that their business depends on them too much. They are often overwhelmed working in their business, doing everything from taking out the trash to doing their own taxes.

They work non stop not because they want to but because they have to. They really don’t have a team in place that can take care of everything and fact is if they were hit by a bus and died their business would die also.

Some entrepreneurs are reluctant to pay somebody to do something that they can do themselves, which can usually be translated into “I don’t have the money to pay someone else to do the work’.

If your business is not generating enough revenue to hire a team to replace you, then you might want to consider a different approach or a different business altogether.

“If your business depends on you, you don’t own a business-you have a job” – Michael Gerber, author, The E-Myth.

You should plan how to get rid of yourself in your business even before you start your business especially if its a service business and you are the one servicing, because once your business is up and running you’ll have much less time to dedicate to such planning.

Millennials redefine the meaning of Entrepreneur

The freedom-seeking Millennials (19 – 30 years old) have their own definition of “entrepreneurship.” based on the findings of a survey conducted by oDesk.Internet security

The survey found that being “an entrepreneur” is defined today as someone who has a certain mindset, according to 90% of the professionals surveyed (versus only 10% who chose “someone who starts a company”). When asked to define an entrepreneur, aspects of this mindset mentioned included being a “self-starter,” “risk-taker,” “visionary,” and someone who “spots opportunity.”

The Millennials entered the workforce during the Information age ( some have called the entrepreneur age), the Industrial age is dead, and the barriers of the Industrial Age work environment simply don’t make sense for businesses that want to get more work done, or for workers who are demanding more freedom. No one today wants to be confined to a cubicle”.

By 2025, the millennials will make up 75% of the global workforce and their independent-thinking and entrepreneurial mindset is going to change the future of the workplace.

Unlike their baby boomer parents, the millennials, feel no sense of “job security”, by working a corporate, 9-5 job. But instead they since a greater feeling of security and more important to them, freedom, freelancing for multiple sources working wherever they want, whenever they want.

Being the Boss, is Not a 40 hour a Week Job.

It seems like everybody wants to work from home, and work a few hours a day next to the pool. Yea right, maybe a desirable image for many but, being the boss is going to white beachrequire a lot more than.

There are reasons why every person doesn’t go out and start their own business, and it’s more than just the hard work involved.

While no two entrepreneurs are alike there are certain personality traits you see in every entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs tend to be creative, excited and hopeful. There’s a faith and belief that is necessary to start your own venture.

You are conditioned as a child to think a certain way, Your current conditioning comes from either your childhood or overcoming that childhood. In either case nurture and build on them, find a mentor, shut off that TV (that makes you No money) and read things that will help you.

I have a library of books, and have listened to hundreds of hours of tapes and cds over the years. Of course its a lot easier now because I now have an App for that.

Bottom line, invest in yourself.

Are You Sure You’re Ready to be Your Own Boss?

There are reasons why every person doesn’t go out and start their own business, and it’s more than just the hard work involved.surprised face

Face it, there’s something painless and even comfortable about going to a job everyday. Even if you have to wake up everyday earlier than you would like at least you don’t have to think about your work after you walk out that door at the end of the day. Not to mention that steady paycheck, the benefits and the snacks in the breakroom.

However things have changed and the fact is this way of life does have some risks. The 1950’s are gone, that steady paycheck, well job security isn’t what it used to be now is it. Those benefits, well the “affordable healthcare act” may not have the impact many imagined it would.

Being your own boss, becoming an entrepreneur obviously requires a different set of skills, including personality and psychological traits from a W-2 earner.

As different as the skill sets and traits of an entrepreneur may seem, I believe that anyone that wants to be an entrepreneur can be. You have to learn to think and act like a business owner, take charge of your life and branch out from any narrow thinking you might have and add some skills to your life but once you make that commitment do that the hardest part is over.

You must have a system in place to efficiently build your business. You can get your very own automated online marketing system, have full access to thousands of dollars worth of the top tools, trainings, and business building software for just pennies a day you can use to promote your business online and take it to the next level.
