Statistically Your Social Media Marketing Efforts for your Business are a Waste of Your Time.

Most business owners I talk with, that use social media for their business, tell me their social media marketing efforts are not profitable and a waste of their time. Almost all of them are managing your social media marketing efforts themselves or have an employee handle it.

Some businesses are in denial about the need to truly embrace social media. Research finds that 72% of businesses that use social media do not have a clear set of goals or a clear strategy for their social media platforms. Some businesses, apparently are not convinced that social media is anything more than a fad or a temporary phenomenon and are unwilling to invest the time and/or resources to acquire the knowledge to manage their social media activities correctly to achieve positive results or make the investment to hire professionals to manage it for them.

Seriously I am really talking to Businesses that still don’t have a Facebook Business Page.

I can’t believe I am still running into some businesses that don’t have a Facebook business page.
Recently I was talking on the phone with a business owner and asked if her social media marketing activities were profitable for her business. Her response was not at all. She has a Facebook business page she said but it was just a waste of time. While we were talking about the details of  her social media marketing activity I was searching for her companies Facebook business page, what I found was just an account in the companies name, no business page.
Your personal page is not a place for your business posts, no wonder she had no results, most of her friends probably blocked her posts so no message was getting out.
Promoting your business on your personal page ( even if it’s your companies name personal page ) is only going to irate your friends and they will hide your posts or unfriend you so they don’t have to see your posts anymore. You end up posting and only you can see them.
With a Facebook business page you can promote your business with integrity as those friends, prospects, customers and anyone else that likes your Facebook business page will see your posts in their news feed but they know it is a business page and expect that, and are ok with that, so they will not be upset with you.

A well run Facebook business page will reflect well on your business but an abandoned page with unanswered questions, comments and few updates can reflect very poorly. Some things to keep in mind when manageing your Facebook business page:

  • Stop thinking social is just for marketing people.

A company that tries to keep social confined to Marketing is going to miss out on the big picture. Probably one of the most exciting things going on in the social media right  now  is  how we are on the verge of expanding social across every facet of the organization as a core communications tool. In any area that involves interaction between people, social is relevant and makes sense as an efficient tool for that interaction.

  • You better start to acknowledge that social is going mobile.

Even while many businesses continue to argue over the need for and value of social media at all, a second revolution has been well underway that’s likely leave any company still interacting socially like then did 20 (or even 5 ) years ago several steps behind. And that is the shift of social usage to mobile devices. Effective campaigns, design and content should be crafted with mobile in mind. The customer is showing you where they want to engage and you as a company are absent, you are already losing and may not even realize it yet.

  • Don’t fear change

There’s the fear social will be a passing fad. Yes, it is true that individual platforms may come and go, but human beings have always used available technology to connect and always will.

  • Don’t fail to resource social

As I mentioned many businesses proudly tell me they’re doing social, but as I dig deeper I find a different story. Most companies have approached social with varying levels of seriousness, but that seriousness can usually be directly measured by the financial and human resources allocated to it. One of the biggest, and most common mistakes I see small business social media marketing, do it your selfers make is they have no consistency in their posts.  If you post an update on your Facebook business page, “whenever you remember to” or “whenever you have time to” you’re going to have a problem with engagement. And don’t make the mistake of being too self promotional! Just update your business page wall with news relevant to your industry or relevant to living in your area. You have to understand that social media marketing is not like the “old school” marketing ways of years ago (traditional media ex: tv newspaper etc) and that your Facebook business page isn’t a big commercial for your business in the traditional “interruption marketing” sense. People hate those pages with passion and block their updates.

Don’t make these mistakes, if you don’t have the time or resources to do your social media marketing yourself, then we can help you with your social media marketing.

Next year 47.3 percent of big businesses will be spending more on social media and digital marketing in local neighborhoods. Small businesses owners, take heed and figure something out!

The Biggest Social Media Mistakes Small Businesses Make!

Despite social media marketing now being an essential part of the marketing mix, some small businesses don’t believe their business can benefit from it, so they do nothing. Big Mistake!
A Manta survey of 600 small business owners across the United States indicates “that 90% are actively engaged in social networking sites and 74% perceive social networking as valuable — if not more valuable — than networking in-person.”
According to another recent analysis of more than 300 Chicago-based news sites, Facebook and Twitter drive more than half of all referred visits for small business sites, three times the percentage of larger sites.

Many of the small businesses I talk to say they were or are having limited or no success with social media, whenever a business owner responds in this way almost 100% of the time they are trying to do their social media marketing themselves instead of hiring a professional to manage their social media for them. I find the reason for their limited success trying to do it themselves is a result of many mistakes they are making. Some of the more common mistakes are:
They are using a Facebook personal profile for a business and that is wrong and against the terms and conditions on Facebook. That Facebook account can be deleted at any time. Personal profiles are for people, not for businesses. Period. Facebook allows you to create for free a business page that you are allowed to use for your business so there is a way to promote your business on Facebook, the right way.
So if you have been using a personal profile page for your business, well sorry but all those “friends” you’ve generated for that profile? Well, you’re going to have to do your best to get their attention and get them to “like” your new business page. No time to do that? We can help.

Another problem with many of these small businesses social media marketing activities is the content they post on Facebook. People are on Facebook to see cool stuff.  Period.
Facebook users don’t care if you added a new Terms of Service page to your website.  They don’t care if you just surpassed your sales goal this quarter or the details of all the houses you have listed. Facebook users care about whatever is trending and local news that is relevant to them, useful and worth sharing. Make your status updates on your business page relevant, some how, some way.  Again, Facebook doesn’t care if you get completely ignored.  Post status updates and links to boring, irrelevant stuff, and you’ll simply be hidden by the majority of your fans.

One of the biggest, and most common mistakes I see small business social media marketing do it your selfers make is they have no consistency in their posts.  If you post an update on your Facebook business page, “whenever you remember to” or “whenever you have time to” you’re going to have a problem with engagement. Social Media is a MLM er’s Best Tool and Worst Nightmare

Social media is a dream come true for anyone in MLM, it can also be the worst nightmare for the MLM er that is uninformed on how to use social media right.
By now most people in network marketing or MLM know that the old ways (hotel meetings, house parties etc..) are not going to very effective prospecting many people in this century, and have realized that social media is networking and by using social media for their MLM business prospecting, they can reach so many more people than they could have using the “old school” methods of yesteryear anyway.
The problem is while some MLM companies are embracing social media, it is obvious to me that most are not providing any training about how to do social media the right way, and as a result many MLM ers are risking having their facebook account closed because they are spamming people.
I know many people in network marketing (MLM) and they are some of the best people you would ever want to meet, so I believe the fact that the majority of the ones I know don’t really intend to spam all their Facebook friends, I don’t think they even realize what they are is wrong and in violation of Facebook policy and they could have their Facebook account shut down as a result. Losing all those pics, connections with friends and everything would be a nightmare for many of these MLM er’s.  It is against Facebook terms and conditions we all agreed to when signing up for an account to post sales pitches etc about a business on your personal page (now referred to as a time line).
Facebook provides a way to promote your MLM business with integrity, by simple creating a Facebook business page (now refereed to as a facebook page) without being in violation.
Don’t let your mistakes made with your social media marketing campaign hurt your MLM business instead of helping. Since your customers and prospects are using social media, your MLM business needs to be consistently involved in social media. Bottom line, you need to do social media marketing, but you need to do social media marketing right!
If you don’t have the time or resources to do your social media marketing yourself, then we can help you do your social media marketing right.

4 Reasons Why Your Social Media Marketing May Be Hurting Your Business!

If mistakes are made with your social media marketing campaign it can easily hurt your business instead of helping. Social media is in real time, so it could happen much faster than word of mouth of the last century.
Since 97% of consumers now use the Internet to research products or services in their local area, local businesses realize it is critical for them to  build awareness of themselves and their company online resulting in most local businesses have embraced social media marketing as a way to connect with more customers and prospects and to drive promotions.
A recent survey of 600 small businesses by Manta that found “nearly 90% of them were dedicating time to social media, Manta also found that many small businesses were overwhelmed by the multitude of social media channels available. With Facebook, for example, 58% of small businesses surveyed said they struggle to find value in having a Facebook page”.

So if you’re using social media for marketing, what can go wrong? How might you be hurting your business rather than helping it grow? Here are four mistakes to avoid hurting your business.

  • Your Spamming

I am amazed at how many local businesses I come across that are using a personal page to do social media marketing for their business instead of creating a Facebook business page to post about their business. I have to wonder how many of the 58% survived that said they were struggling posting on a personal page instead of a Facebook business page. Posting about your business on a personal facebook page is a sure fire way to get your “friends” to unfreind you or to simply hide all your posts ( maybe only you can see your posts, no wonder they can’t see any value) or worse yet you could get a spam warning from facebook risking having your account shut down. This could be avoided if created a Facebook business page for your local business.

  • You have the wrong person doing your social media marketing.

Letting an inexperienced person manage your social media marketing is not a good idea. It’s downright irresponsible. Just because your brothers son may be a college student who grew up with computers and has 2000 facebook friends on his personal page does not make him a good candidate, unless he is majoring in marketing in college of course. For best results, you need a team of trained marketing professionals who understand social media and marketing, preferably digital marketing. If you don’t have the time or resources in house then outsource your social media marketing.

  • Your posts Lack consistency

I have talked with many owners of local businesses that have set up a social media profile and launch programs that start out well but then abruptly end because they lack the time to be consistent and drop the ball. Social media users say a company’s social media activities make the company appear “accessible and responsive”. A businesses lack of consistency in their social media activities can make any company look bad fast, it conveys the impression to prospects and customers that the company is neither organized nor committed, to either social media or the company’s fan base.

  • Your Overposting!

Sometimes less is better when it comes to Facebook. Keep in mind that all your posts on your Facebook business page show up on your fans personal newfeed after they like your Facebook business page, people get frustrated and annoyed by constant posts. According to an article from the social business: “One-to-two posts a day is more effective than fewer or more posts per day. One or two brand posts receive 32% higher “like” rates and 73% higher comment rates compared to posting 3 or more times a day.”

Don’t let your mistakes made with your social media marketing campaign hurt your business instead of helping. Since your customers and prospects are using social media, your business needs to be consistently involved in social media. Bottom line, you need to do social media marketing, but you need to do social media marketing right!
If you don’t have the time or resources to do your social media marketing in house, then outsource your social media marketing.

You Don’t Need Social Media, You Have Enough Business – Think Again!

If you think you don’t need social media because you currently have enough business, you are missing the point or half of it anyway.
I have actually talked with several business owners this past week that told me they had no need to do any social media marketing, because they have enough business.  I am truly glad to hear that, I would wish that for all the businesses, but how long will that last if a growing number of their customers feel they are less accessible and responsive to their customers?
For what ever reason, maybe they  get all their business by word of mouth ( what is social media if not digital word of mouth )
Maybe they get all their business by referrals ( what do they think a like on your Facebook business page is if not someone referring your business to all there friends, on average 130 each, that’s a lot of referrals, they are missing.)
You see it’s not that much different as how you built your business, it just digital now with social media as the platform or tool if you will.
If you are one of the minority of businesses, that doesn’t have a Facebook business page and are not using other social media, you are falling behind, you just don’t know it yet. You didn’t build your business overnight did you? Well you likely wont lose it overnight ether.
Just because your marketing or lack thereof has worked the past two years, doesn’t mean it will continue to work, change happens, customers have different expectations now than they did just a few years ago.
Social media is more than just lead generation, just under 80% of social media users are likely to seek the opinions of others before buying goods or services and 60% say they have changed their minds because of those opinions. Roughly 60% of social media users want to see companies use social media for customer service, saying a companies social media activities make the company appear “accessible and responsive”.
How long will you be able to keep your current customers if you are not where a growing number of your customers expect you to be, on social media? Don’t fall behind keep up!
Social Media marketing is not rocket science, but there are some things you need to avoid doing at all costs. If you don’t know where to start? No problem, Help with your social media marketing, is just a click away!

The Real Reason Most People Fail at MLM (Multi Level Marketing)

Your upline will tell you those people failed in MLM because, they didn’t work hard enough or try hard enough or something like that, but that is true only for some ( and even then only part of the reason).

As I have said in past posts I have nothing against MLM or Multi Level Marketing or Network Marketing or whatever you want to call it I will keep it short and use MLM for this post, as a matter of fact like Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki, I too believe MLM offers the best opportunity for the average American to have there own business.

Unfortunately many MLM companies have not brought there marketing methods and training into the 21st century. Seriously invite friends over to your home only to spring a surprise sales pitch on them done by some well dressed stranger who apparently was also invited. Really seriously?? Well that high pressure tactic worked when it was new back in 1955, so they keep using it until you run out of your friends. Then I guess you will just quit.

I have posted in the past and many have determined that social media marketing is a natural fit for MLM, and as a result have tried using social media for their MLM marketing.
The problem I see in this is they do it wrong! So yes stop marketing like it’s 1955, but you must do social media right or you will still lose.
MLM in my opinion offer an excellent opportunity, especially with our current economy, and social media is a natural fit the combination offers an incredible opportunity.
What I see most people doing their MLM marketing on their Facebook personal page, which in itself is wrong. Facebook provides an opportunity for you to create a Facebook business (or fan ) page for your business for free.
I believe more people will prosper with MLM in the next few years because of the changes that have and are taking place, but only if the adopt Social Media as a primary source for sharing the positive experience they had with the product or service provided by their MLM products and/or services. But sharing that experience must be done right!!

Stop alienating your family & friends by prospecting on their newsfeed. Set you up a facebook business page to generate leads for your business.

Most businesses today are aware of the need for an online presence and the need for social media marketing to be apart of their online marketing strategies, here are some of the articles I have read and recommend reading as I believe are of value.

Most businesses I talk to today have a Facebook business (fan) page but many express struggles effectively utilizing it. Here is a link to a post Social Media Examiner had with Facebook marketing tips from top experts.

Social media marketing can be time consuming, but it can pay off, Social Media Today reported 3 out of 4 CMO’s say social media impacts sales.
If you don’t have the time or resources within their company to set up and/or manage your companies  social media campaigns you should outsource the management to professionals.

Seriously I am really talking to Businesses that still don’t have a Facebook Business Page.

I can’t believe I am still running into some businesses that don’t have a Facebook business page.
Friday afternoon I was talking on the phone with a business owner and asked if her social media marketing campaigns were profitable for her business. Her response was not at all. She has a Facebook page she said but it was just a waste of time. While she was answering my question detailing her social media marketing activity I was searching for her companies Facebook business page, what I found was just an account in the companies name, no business page.
Your personal page is not a place for your business posts, no wonder she had no results, most of her friends probably blocked her posts so no message was getting out.
Now don’t get me wrong as I have stated in previous post I do not in any way advocate a facebook business (fan) page taking the place of your website. On the contrary I think you should have as many social media, business directory sites and so on driving traffic to your website (provided your website is your “hub” you want to send them to).
If you don’t have the time or resources within their company to set up and/or manage your companies  social media campaigns you should outsource the management to professionals.
